Living well

Wellness isn't about slowing down. It's about continuing to live the life you love.

At Ocean Gardens, wellness is part of everyday life.
It's about staying active, keeping your mind engaged, maintaining
strong relationships and continuing to have things to look forward to.

Our Wellness Program has been designed specifically for independent older adults who want to stay
active, healthy and connected. Led by experienced health professionals, it takes a
holistic approach to wellbeing - helping residents maintain the strength, confidence
and independence to keep doing the things they love.

And it's not something that simply sounds good on paper.

In July, 51% of Ocean Gardens residents participated in the Wellness Program, with 1,092
resident attendances across the month - the highest level of participation recorded.

More than exercise.

Wellness at Ocean Gardens is built around the belief that being well is about more than physical fitness.
Our approach is underpinned by seven interconnected pillars of wellness, supporting the whole person and the community around them.

Physical

Keep moving. Keep doing the things you love.
Strength, balance, mobility, flexibility and physical activity help support an active and independent lifestyle.

Emotional

Feel good, feel supported and make time for yourself.
Mindfulness, relaxation, wellbeing and opportunities to simply slow down and enjoy the moment.

Social

Good health is better together.
Friendships, group activities and shared experiences help create connection and a strong sense of community.

Spiritual

Have something to look forward to.
Purpose, contribution, new experiences and opportunities to give back all play a role in living a fulfilling life.

Intellectual

Keep your mind curious.
Learning, creativity, conversation and new experiences help keep life interesting and the mind engaged.

Environmental

Create surroundings that support wellbeing.
A beautiful, welcoming environment can have a positive influence on how we feel, connect and enjoy everyday life.

Occupational

Keep contributing.
Sharing skills, volunteering, mentoring, helping others and finding meaningful ways to contribute can give every day a sense of purpose.

The pillars are interconnected because wellness
is interconnected.

Stay active. Stay independent.

One of the most important parts of living well is maintaining the physical confidence to keep doing the things you enjoy.

Our Wellness Team takes a proactive approach to helping residents maintain strength, balance, mobility and confidence through a comprehensive program of exercise and movement.

From strength and conditioning and falls prevention to Tai Chi, chair yoga, walking groups, pool exercise, mobility sessions, stretching and personalised exercise, there are many ways to keep moving in a way that suits you.

And because everyone's goals are different, residents can also access free one-to-one sessions with our Wellness Team to work on specific physical goals, including rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, balance and falls prevention.

Led by professionals.

Wellness at Ocean Gardens isn't simply a timetable of activities. It's a professionally led program.

Our Wellness Team includes Jo Sykes, Wellness Program Lead and Exercise Physiologist, with more than 20 years' industry experience across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe, and Niall McGurk, a full-time Accredited Exercise Physiologist with qualifications in Exercise Science and Rehabilitation.

The team also works collaboratively with local physiotherapists and other allied health professionals, including GPs, podiatrists, occupational therapists and dietitians, when residents require more specific exercise or health support.

It's this depth of professional expertise that gives Ocean Gardens' Wellness Program its purpose.

A program people actually use.

We believe the best wellness program is one that people genuinely want to be part of. Our weekly timetable currently offers 14 group exercise classes, with Chair Fit alone attracting more than 30 residents to each session. And participation continues to grow.

Those numbers tell an important story.

Wellness isn't something we offer. It's something our community embraces.

Wellness creates connection too.

Some of the best things about wellness happen after the exercise is finished.

A coffee after class.
A walk with a friend.
A conversation at morning tea.
A shared laugh.

Our Wellness Program creates opportunities for residents to connect with others while doing something positive for themselves. Group classes, Walk & Talk sessions, outings, morning teas and other activities all contribute to the social side of wellbeing.

Because good health is better together.

Keep discovering.

Wellness doesn't stop when the exercise class ends.

Monthly guest speakers, workshops, meditation, creative activities, intergenerational programs, volunteering, gardening and opportunities to share skills all help residents remain curious, connected and engaged.

It's about having something new to learn. Something new to try.
And something new to look forward to.

Come and experience wellness at Ocean Gardens.

The best way to understand our approach to wellness is to see it in action.
